Welcome to the U.S. Probation Office in the District of Idaho. You or someone you know has been sentenced to a federal term of supervision (probation or supervised release) by the U.S. District Court. This person will be supervised by a U.S. Probation Officer who has specific statutory responsibilities to ensure their behavior complies with the restrictions imposed by the conditions of their release.

During the term of supervision, the individual may expect the U.S. Probation Officer assigned will use various methods consistent with the conditions of release to protect the community and assist with making positive changes in their life. Conditions the Court will impose full under the categories of Mandatory, Standard and Special Conditions. Mandatory Conditions prohibit a person on supervision from committing a new crime, unlawfully possessing a controlled substance, or possessing a firearm or other dangerous weapons. Standard Conditions apply to everyone on supervision and are not tailored to an individual’s needs. Special Conditions are unique to each person on supervision and tailored given their conviction, history, characteristics, or specific needs.  These needs could be a specific type of treatment (sex offense specific, mental health, or substance use disorder), or any condition(s) the Court may deem appropriate at the time of sentencing to protect the community and bring about improvements to the person on supervision.

With how often laws change, please contact a U.S. Probation Officer for clarification on any of these matters, specific conditions you may have questions about, or any matter related to supervision for further explanation.
